First Tower
Space to Live
Renounced as the City of Fountains and the Gateway to Jerusalem for the Crusaders, Messina has long history with Europe and the Arabic world and plagued with seismic heritage. This project is going to be the firs thigh rise building reaching 18 stories as the city is changing urban policies and building regulations to project a better future. We start the design reaching higher skylines with respects to the local neighbourhood and environments. The mix-use programme situated perfectly with the adjoining buildings and street activities with commercial ground floor and offices on the lower 5 levels. A communal terrace separates the upper residential units from below with an independent lobby. The project consists of two simple volumes. The outer south facing balconies with solid and articulated geometrical tiers provide contrast with the inner north facing inhabitable floors with smooth and rotating facades. The balconies are solar shading devices installed with photovoltaic panelling. The inner stair core serves as a solar chimney while the north glazing façade attempts to maximise non-invasive northern daylight. We propose to use self-cleansing glazing system with diagonal solar shades as rainwater guides to minimise maintenance with long-term intelligence in sustainability. The main structures are independent where flexibility and dynamic movement joints are critical.

Messina Waterfront and Polycenter
Space to Play
The proposal consists of a new concert venue for the emerging young culture and talents of the city with an aquarium in the lower building capitalizing the maritime expertise and research in the region. In the tower a new cinema and shopping facility enhance this unique experience; while a top floor observatory enables a magnificent panoramic view of the city and the Messina Strait. The slow rotational façades and the in-between entrances emphasize the unique relationship from locality to the pivoting flowsof events and people through an intricate play of inside and outside with articulated porosity and visual connectivity towards the city in multiple aspects.

Sarajevo National Concert Hall, Sarajevo
Space to Play
The project extends the public surface of the city of Sarajevo into and under the ground, forming a continuous space. This surface is wrapping the public foyers, the auditoriums and the service areas as well as an outdoor landscape above. The surrounding surface of the park-scape dissolves into and continues underground in a whirlpool movement allowing access from several critical points of the city. The bifurcatedlandscaping creates openings for entrances and natural lighting. The surface also expands and contracts on its way down, accommodating different events through the building bringing all the people together in the vineyard main concert hall auditoria. The project uses the thermal mass of the ground to create an indoor microclimate insensitive to temperature and humidity variations. The ultimate purpose is to create an active public space that can be appropriated for different activities in front of the parliament building. The concert hall serves as a foyer to the civic activities on this shared urban room.
